I can’t believe I went this long without buying a circular polarizer. I needed one badly when I was taking pictures during the America’s Cup World Series. I love taking pictures of cloudy skies and landscapes so it’s pretty much a requirement in the camera bag!
I ended up buying a B+W XS-Pro Kaesemann Circular Polarizer with Multi Resistant Coating + nano Coating. B+W really needs to come up with better ways to name their products! According to many photography forums, this is supposed to be one of the best out there. I haven’t read a single complaint, so I figured I would take a dive and spend the extra money (a whole lotta extra money) for this particular filter.
I took a few quick shots of the beautiful skies we have been having lately and WOW…look at the difference a polarizer can make!

I have a lot to learn about how to shoot with this filter – it’s not easy given all the adjustability of the filter and the differing angles of light at any given moment.
Some crappy iPhone pictures:
What’s next on my list? A Singh-Ray Vari-ND adjustable ND filter! I’m a little anxious to get all this gear since we will be attenting the next round of the Americas Cup World Series, San Francisco Fleet Week, and the US Grand Prix in Austin.
